LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. >> Cypress Creek Renewables will hold a community open house for the Landau Solar project on Wednesday, April 18.
The open house will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ulster Town Hall, 1 Town Hall Drive. A solar farm is proposed at a former quarry along state Route 32 in the town of Ulster.
Cyprus Creek Renewables proposed three arrays, each producing 2 megawatts of electricity, on part of a 190-acre property owned by Eddyville Corp., which straddles the road in the area of 3040 Route 32. The property was used as a quarry into the 1970s. Eddyville Corp. sought to resume mining there in 2001, but the town ultimately rejected the request and barred mining there.
Town Supervisor James Quigley has said the application calls for more than 25 percent of the property to be covered by solar panels, but efforts are being made to minimize the visual impact. For information, visit www.townofulster.org.
