Jaipur: With the aim of reducing carbon emissions, the Jaipur International Airport is switching to green energy sources.
According to officials, the airport recently changed 147 air conditioners to zero carbon emissions air conditioners. It is also trying to ensure that by December, 50% of its power usage is solar energy. At present it stands at 25%, officials said.
“The airport earlier had air conditioners that needed R22 gas which adds to carbon emissions which have now been replaced to R32 gas which has lower environmental impact and zero carbon emissions.
The airport authorities are also constantly working to increase greenery around the airport with extensive tree plantation work being carried out and 10,000 plants already planted. Solar panels of 1.8 megawatts have also been installed at the airport. At present, 25% of the power consumption of the whole airport is based on renewable energy and the target is to increase this to 50% by the end of the year,” said a spokesperson of the Jaipur airport.
The airport has also replaced 50 fire extinguishers which have the latest technology to further reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

“Jaipur airport is constantly working at zero carbon emission in field of environment. Use of new technology is promoted to ensure high standards in health and safety management. New initiatives are being constantly taken up to ensure high standards of quality for passengers at Jaipur airport. A high-tech central command vehicle has also been deployed at the airport to deal with any type of crises at the earliest,” added the airport official.
