• 8 a.m. — The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair will take place at the Keystone Centre featuring the best in agricultural entertainment, show jumping, heavy horse hitch, family entertainment, live music, food and so much more. Today is Brandon University Kids Day with Fred Penner who performs at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Open ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. followed by the evening show in the Westoba Place Main Arena. • 11 a.m. — The Brandon Ministerial Association is hosting the annual Community Good Friday service at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. A free-will offering will be collected with the proceeds going to summer job programs at Westman Youth For Christ and Samaritan House Ministries.

• 1:30 p.m. — The Father’s Pantry Inc., Board of Directors and volunteers are hosting its 9th annual free Easter “Meal in the Park” for the poor, hungry, less fortunate and homeless at the Central United Church from 1:30-4 p.m. Tickets are being distributed to the needy by the Loaves and Fished Feeding Program in the Youth for Christ Building on Sunday afternoons. AT THE MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

• The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum — The only museum solely dedicated to preserving the history of the thousands of Canadian, American and Commonwealth air personnel who trained under the “Plan” during the Second World War. • The Arts West Travelling Gallery — The travelling gallery is at the Carberry Library until Saturday. It then moves to the Killarney Library.

• The RCA Museum (Royal Canadian Artillery Museum) — an award-winning national museum that has five major galleries and more than 30 vehicles and guns located outside in the Gun Park. Located at CFB Shilo, we have recently introduced a temporary exhibit with guns and vehicles that came into service during the 1950s-70s. We have included a M38A1CDN2 Jeep, M113A2 APC, C1 105mm Howitzer and Grizzly AVGP. These vehicles will be on display in The Gregg Gallery until the end of April. All guns and vehicles have interpretive signs in French and English. Wheelchair accessible. Hours: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Admission is charged. • The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba — Community Gallery: Photovoice II — Planting Seeds of Change: Voices of Indigenous Youth, on until Saturday, features a collection of photographs and stories about how urban community gardens contribute to holistic health. • The Brandon General Museum and Archives — The museum is located on the ground floor of the old Manitoba Telephone building at 19 Ninth St. Exhibit “Long Lost Images of Brandon,” runs until the end of April. • The Tommy McLeod Curve Gallery at Brandon University — The exhibition, “Foundations Under Brandon University: A Campus Retrospective,” consisting of a series of visual vignettes that highlight the physical development of the 18th Street campus is on display until April 2018. Plans and photographs housed in the SJ McKee Archives illustrate both the 118-year evolution of the campus and also contrast with drawings of what the campus was imagined to be. Free to the public and open during regular library hours.

• April 4 —The Department of Visual and Aboriginal Arts – Ceramics Studio at Brandon University is holding a fundraising pottery sale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Knowles-Douglas Building, Mingling Area. Purchase beautiful handmade bowls and mugs made by our students for $10-$15 each.

• April 4 —The Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory School of Music Recital with Mary Jo Carrabré, director, will take place at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. No admission charge.

• April 4-7 —Adlib Drama presents Boeing Boeing, the Non-Stop Comedy by Marc Camolette at the Boissevain-Morton Community Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m.; showtime at 7:30 p.m. nightly. • April 6-7 —Virden’s own Phoenix Players are pleased to present “Arlene’s Beauty World,” in the Virden Aud Theatre. Showtimes: April 6 at 7:30 p.m.; April 7 at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. This is a comedy-mystery written by Michael Soetaert and directed by Jennifer Glendinning. Tickets are $12 and the seats are rush. Bring the whole family for an hour and learn how maple syrup is made from start to finish at 1735 Rosser Avenue East. Open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Visit the sugar bush, watch the syrup evaporating on the heritage Quebec wood-fired evaporator and sample fresh syrup. All for only $5 per person. • April 28 —Lenora Buffi, author of the newly-published fictional novel, Vista, is holding a reading and book-signing at the Brandon Public Library at 4:30 p.m. Inspired by the amazing talent of Baroque musicians, the story is about a violin prodigy, Ariana Santino, who has dreams of a mysterious woman from the 19th century. • June 2 —The annual Kiwanis Kar Derby is gearing up. Registration is $100 for ages 8-14 as of Dec. 31, 2018; new Kar Kit $200 and includes wheels, axles, spindles, brakes and registration.
